The Canadian Research Knowledge Network (CRKN) has negotiated a cost-neutral transformative read-and-publish agreement with Institute of Physics Publishing (IOPP). This agreement includes unlimited reading and open access publishing in most IOPP hybrid and gold journals at no charge to authors affiliated with participating CRKN institutions. The agreement also allows for perpetual access rights to IOPP journals included in the agreement.
CRKN’s Content Strategy Committee (CSC) was pleased with the opportunity presented by IOP Publishing to negotiate an agreement that transitions more Canadian-authored content to open access, without adding a significant cost burden to CRKN members. The agreement includes an increase in year one, where the overall added cost for each participating member will amount to less than one median article publication charge. The 2021-2024 CRKN-IOPP agreement includes 45 participating CRKN members (listed below).
“Our priority continues to be increasing sustainable, cost neutral, open access options for researchers affiliated with CRKN member institutions at no additional cost to the author,” commented Harriet Rykse, member of the CSC’s IOPP Sub-Group. “Through this agreement, we had the opportunity to collaborate with a not-for-profit international publisher to meet renewal objectives that will result in increased open access content from researchers in Canada.”
The agreement is retroactive to December 15, 2021, and corresponding authors affiliated with CRKN institutions participating in the CRKN-IOPP agreement can publish an unlimited number of their articles under an open access license in most IOPP hybrid and gold journals at no charge to the author for the duration of the agreement. For more information, and to view the complete CRKN-IOPP license, please visit this page on the CRKN website.
CRKN would like to thank the CSC IOP Publishing Sub-Group, the entire Content Strategy Committee, and the membership for their support during these negotiations.
